“Sinus tract formation is an important feature of HS,
and a significant contributor to morbidity in other diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease or acne. Data on the possible pathogenesis of
sinus tracts, however, remain scarce. In consequence, the therapeutic options remain similarly limited at present.”

Bibliography

The HSF Bibliography provides a list of medical literature citations , from 1833 to the current day, and have been selected by Michelle Barlow and Rob Howes, co-founders of the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation, Inc. Most of the HSF bibliographical citations refer to documents published in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals or are citations to internet resources, books and book chapters edited and/or authored by physicians. Three styles of the HSF bibliography are provided below in PDF and HTML format; the first is by author (Academic Medicine Format), the second is by year of publication, the third version of the HSF bibliography is provided online in HTML format.

A search for "Hidradenitis Suppurativa" on PubMed, a service of the US National Library of Medicine, reveals less than 500 citations from MEDLINE and other science journals dating back to the 1950s. The HSF Bibliography provides a list of almost 1500 citations, which demonstrates that PubMed, the most common resource for seeking medical and scientific HS information, contains less than one third of citations to published materials about Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

It takes time, effort and money for the HSF to provide this valuable and accurate health information on HS. That is why we ask for your financial support of the mission, vision and programs of the HSF. Please visit our donate page and help us help those with HS.
